Biography:
Dr. Makoto Sakurai studied physics at Keio University, Japan, graduating with an MS degree. He received his PhD degree from Keio University. He joined the research group of Prof. M. Aono as a researcher at RIKEN, Japan and studied the mechanism of atom manipulation by a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and STM-induced light emission from artificial atomic structures. He became a senior researcher in the Prof. Aono’s group at National Institute for Materials Science, Japan, and studied dynamic lattice-defect engineering in SnO2 rods, control of peptide self-assembly, solid-state molecular machinery, and molecular magnetism using on-surface chemistry and stochastic thermodynamics.
