Innovations in nanostructured materials for eco-remediation and sustainability

Alka Sharma, Speaker at Nanoscience Conferences
University of Rajasthan, India
Title : Innovations in nanostructured materials for eco-remediation and sustainability

Abstract:

Scientific contributions are the reflections of any nation’s development in which the three E’s (Economy, Environment and Energy) contribute greatly. Today, eco-sustainability and energy are the prime issues standing in the midst of deep crisis and utmost need of the hour for the progress of civilization. Amongst the three pillars of sustainability (social, environmental and economic), Eco-sustainability is the most vital to be concerned and nanotechnology is the only pivotal tool for eco-sustainability. In view of the eco-damaging factors involved with conventional methods (chemical/physical) of nanomaterial synthesis, a non-conventional (green) approach is employed to fabricate nanomaterials. Thereby, various Green Nano-structured materials have been successfully fabricated as they have multifold potency to eradicate environmental toxicants/pollutants compared to bulk materials. Moreover, these nano-structured materials also have significant role in other sectors, viz., health-care, pharmaceutical, life-sciences, metal and other industries, etc. The synthesis of nanomaterials has been endorsed by carrying out characterization using standard tools and techniques, viz., FTIR, UV-vis, FL, AFM, SEM-EDS, XRD etc.. The green approach to fabricate nano-structured materials is now much widely used and also advocated to adopt it globally for sustaining ecological balance.

Biography:

Prof. Alka Sharma, born in a family of Engineers in Rajasthan, graduated with Chemistry Honors and doctoral degree in Electrochemistry, has 30 years of academic and research experience as faculty, Department of Chemistry, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.
Her major research thrust areas: Corrosion Science; Eco-fabrication of nano-structured materials, industrial & eco-remediation applications; innovative materials focus on eco-sustainability. With 50 research papers publications to her credit, she has also authored 2 book chapters published from renowned internationally acclaimed publishing houses, namely, Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim, Germany (2012) & IGI Global, Hershey, Pennsylvania (USA) (2014) and four book chapters for UG-Chemistry text books. Besides, she has also contributed for UGC-MHRD e-PG-Pathshala Project (2014) as content writer in Environmental Sciences (Chemistry) and prepared a module on Aquatic redox Chemistry (https://epgp.inflibnet.ac.in/Home/ViewSubject?catid=14) and as Editor, brought out TWO volumes of prestigious Annual Magazine “Bhagirathi” of multi-faculty prestigious University Maharani College, UoR, Jaipur (2015-16 & 2016-18 – combined volume of two academic sessions).

As MHRD-DIC-course coordinator of Innovation in Material Sciences for Inclusive Development, her proclivity is to bring out some prototype via innovation & design in material science for environmental-remediation & other industrial sectors, viz., non-toxic lead-free-soldering materials; nano-composites adsorbent to eradicate pollutant; nano-coated corrosion impeders, etc.

As an innovative remedy to eradicate toxicity in environment, a Patent has been filed on her findings (application No.202211035057 A; Date of filing of Application: 18/06/2022; Publication Date: 08/07/2022 in Patent Journal).
